In general, when a Nova report filter is applied it restricts the pupils included in all the report's analysis. For example, if a Sex filter of ‘Male’ is applied, all the counts, percentages, averages, aggregations, etc. will be based on a cohort of only male pupils. If you additionally then apply a second filter for 'SEN Support' pupils using the SEN Provision filter, then all the results will be based only on male pupils who are also SEN Support (SEND K). Once filtered, no results from outside the filter selections can be included in the report.
Some filters allow you to select multiple options by placing check marks next to all groups you wish to include in the cohort.
CIN-specific filters only apply to the CIN cohorts (e.g. CiN or CPP) and not cohorts in the other domains. For example, if you filtered a report to show whether the child had a Section 47 during the year, that could only apply to pupils who have been a child in need. In that example LA and national domains would show all pupils whilst National CIN and Regional CIN domains would show the results of the filter. If a non-CiN specific filter is applied, this will automatically imply that only matched pupils will show. ‘Matched pupils only’ means the children are only included if they have been matched to a key stage result record.
Nova splits the filters into primary filters, which are always displayed due to their high use, and
secondary filters which we hide by default, because they are used less often. To see the
secondary filters click on the See More Pupil Filters link to expand the panel.
When you select/change one of the report Pupil Filters, that field is highlighted yellow and the following message appears on screen:
You have unapplied changes! Please click APPLY ALL to update your report.
This is to alert you that your data will not be returned with your chosen filter until the green Apply All button is clicked. Once you have selected all the required Pupil Filters, click the Apply All button in the Report Parameters pane to trigger the report to run. After a few moments, the report will display in the Report Preview panel.
You should note that it can be better to apply Aggregations to reports - or use Aggregations in combination with filters - rather than run filtered reports multiple times. Aggregations are covered here.
CiN Groups
The display options in CiN Nova reports include a filter for CiN Group that gives users the options below:
The default for all reports will be ‘CIN at 31 March’. The CiN groups are:
- All – all children that appear in the CiN Census.
- CiN – all children in need at any point during the year, including any child not assessed as no further action required regardless of whether their referral was within the current year, and they do not have a referral closure date.
- CiN at 31 March – all children in need at 31st March, including any child not assessed as no further action required regardless of whether their referral was within the current year, and they do not have a referral closure date.
- CPP – all children that have a Child Protection Plan
- Section 47 - all children that have had a Section 47 assessment in the year.
Pupil Filters List
The table below lists the available report filters and some of their details. Please note that not all filters are available in all reports or key stages. They can change depending on the report selected.
