Data imported into Nexus varies as to when it will be available in terms of the module of the system that it is visible in. This is to manage the amount of processing required and ensure good performance for all users, all of the time - even in the busiest periods. This article explains the timeframes.
Who this is for
Any user needing to report on freshly imported data into the system.
Differences between the modules
When you have imported data into Nexus, it becomes available based on the following schedule:
| Module | Updates | Notes |
| Nova reports (Nexus and Perspective Lite) | Immediately | Except progress report quintiles (which are overnight) |
| Batch reporting (Nova) | Immediately | Previously generated PDF must be re-run to reflect new data |
| Batch reporting (Keypas) | Immediately | |
| Insight / Analysis Insight (Nexus and Perspective Lite) | Overnight | Except Weekly Attendance (which is immediate) |
| Import Indicators widget / LA imported data details | Overnight | |
| Real Time Data Trends | Immediate |
Nova reports / Reports (Nova) in Perspective Lite
Users of both Nova reports in Nexus (and Reports (Nova) in schools) will be able to access reporting through that module as soon as the import is completed. Instant access explains why the processing time required for users to make parameter changes to the specification of these reports is longer than for Insight. They are running against the current version of all pupils nationally as well as linking to the contextual data sources like Pupil Premium files and school census.
The exception for Nova reports is Progress Quintiles for KS1 to KS2 progress reports which will update overnight after the data has cached.
The rest of the content of the progress reports will be available immediately, it's just the quintiles that update overnight.
Batch reporting (Nova)
The large majority of batch reporting in Nexus is based on Nova reporting and therefore updates immediately. However, batch reports generate static PDF documents. This means that though the data they are based on updates in the background, the batch reports and PDF that have already been published would need to be re-run to pick those newly imported changes. Batch Reporting is covered in its own article.
Batch reporting (Keypas)
There is now very little use of Keypas batch reports in Nexus. They are chiefly used for data quality purposes - sharing back with schools what has been received and imported to fit some LAs processes. These also update immediately after import.
Insight / Analysis (Insight) in Perspective Lite
Insight updates overnight. The data imported into the system is cached and aggregated in the background. It is this aggregation process (where every combination of results and contextual data is calculated and saved) that allows Insight to respond quickly to user changes in parameters because the aggregations have already been stored.
The Weekly Attendance data is the sole exception within Insight as it updates immediately into the system and analysis can be viewed as soon as the import is completed.
Keypas Import Indicators widget and LA Imported Data Details screen
These indicators - which show what has been imported into Nexus across the country - update over night.
Realtime Data Trends
A separate Real Time Data - Data Tab Visibility article explains these simplified visualisations, but the data updates immediately.
