Nova trend reports are a powerful way to compare the achievements of your virtual school cohort year on year and in comparison to a national cohort. They feature options not available in other reports (such as being able to select the indicators you are interested in) but are also a little more complicated when it comes to assessing what the report is showing you due to the year to year nature of the reports.
Each row of the report displays a number of useful values. The descriptions below explain the meaning of the labelled values in the figure above:
A: The average progress score of the virtual school cohort in 2016.
B: The average progress score of the virtual school cohort in 2017
C: Between 2016 and 2017 there has been an increase in the average progress score of the virtual school cohort of 1.21 points.
D: A visualisation depicting the average progress score in 2016 and 2017.
E: Even though the average progress score of the virtual school cohort increased by 1.21 points (C), the average progress score of the national CLA cohort was 0.16 points higher than that (+1.37). Therefore the virtual school cohort did not make as much progress, on average, as the national CLA cohort.
You can customise the comparator domain (used by value E) by switching the value of the Comparator Domain display option.
Please note that due to the cancellation of most assessments in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, trends for the period go from 2019 to 2022.
