Introduction

RAGs are created and administered through the Admin menu in Nexus, though only users with the appropriate permissions will see that option.

What is a RAG?

RAG stands for Red-Amber-Green and is a common way to categorise schools. You can stick with these categories or configure the list with your own categories and colours. Each school in your LA can be associated to one of the items in the list. You can set up the RAGs to be tailored to your local authority. The only limitation on the number is that only 11 colours are available (not just Red/Amber/Green).

Once a RAG is set up, authorised users can select it from the Groups tab in the School section. It can also be applied as part of the Bulk Edit process.

It's important to note that the kinds of information that can be denoted by a RAG might also be captured through other functionality, such as a TAG, LA Category, LA Grade, or LA Target Grade. Local Authorities should consider the best combination of information items to meet their needs and offer flexibility for the future.

Managing RAGs

RAGs are really easy to create, edit, and delete. When setting one up for the first time, click Add a New RAG Rating, select the colour, and enter the wording you want to show. Make the wording meaningful enough for users in your LA who may need to make use of it.

Click Add once you've set the colour and wording, and you're done. The RAG has been created and is immediately available for use. At this point, no schools will have that RAG applied.

If you find you need to amend the wording for a RAG or amend the colour, you can come back and edit the wording by clicking Edit alongside it. Editing the wording or colour of the RAG will still ensure that schools that had the RAG applied still do so.

You can also change the order in which RAGs are presented. Use the icon at the right hand side - up/down arrows - to move the RAG up or down the list.

If a RAG is no longer required, simply click Delete. This will remove the RAG that is not currently in use entirely. If you try to delete a RAG where at least one school has it applied, you will be asked whether you wish to delete the RAG and clear it from all records or delete the RAG and reallocate another in its place.
