Obtaining and importing the SEN2 census

This import is restricted to users with Keypas SEN2 permissions. Please note that SEN2 permissions need to be switched on for all current users by the LA Nexus admin. Once the permission has been given, the user will need to log out and back in again to see the SEN2 functionality in Nexus.

The SEN2 census is a statutory data return made by every LA to the DfE introduced as person-level in 2023. The data collection captures information about all children referred for assessment for an education, health and care plan (EHCP) and all children that have an EHCP during the reporting year.

You can import your SEN2 census into Nexus at the same time you upload your file to COLLECT, or you can complete the data cleansing in COLLECT, then download your final XML file and import this into Nexus.

The file needs to be an XML for import into Nexus; this can be from either your LA MIS or the DfE's COLLECT website.

SEN2 Census Example Import

You will produce a single XML file to upload to COLLECT or download a single XML file from COLLECT. The file has no official naming convention, so only the header in the file will be validated, not its name. 

To import this file, log into Nexus and browse to the import screen.

• Keypas > Imports > Import New File > SEN2

At the bottom of the import screen, you can drag and drop your file or add related files.
